About

About Dr. Pavan Addala

Dr. Pavan Addala is a Surgical Gastroenterologist with 19 years of experience treating the full range of digestive system conditions, from routine hernia and gallbladder surgery to complex cancer and transplant cases. He has performed over 16,000 GI surgeries and currently practices at Medicover Hospitals, Secunderabad, where his roles include Chief Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist and Program Head for Liver & Pancreas Transplant — the latter reflecting an advanced sub-specialization built on top of a broad general surgical practice, not a replacement for it.

Education & Training

After his MBBS and MS in General Surgery at Manipal University, Dr. Addala went on to specialise further, completing his DNB in Surgical Gastroenterology at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai — one of the country's more demanding training programs in the field. He earned fellowships in advanced laparoscopic surgery (FIAGES, and FALS in Oncology), and later completed a certificate course in endobariatrics at Mohak's Bariatric Centre in Indore, adding weight-loss surgery to his skill set.

Firsts & Recognition

In 2016, Dr. Addala became the first surgeon in Andhra Pradesh to perform POEM (Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy) for Achalasia Cardia, followed by STER (Submucosal Tunneling and Endoscopic Resection) in 2017 — together known as Third Space Endoscopic Surgery. He also sits on the advisory board for Teleflex Medicals.

Scope of Practice

A Full-Spectrum Surgical Gastroenterology Practice

Across 19 years and 16,000+ GI surgeries, Dr. Addala's practice has always covered the everyday alongside the complex: hernia repair, gallbladder disease, reflux and hiatal hernia, piles and fissures, and inflammatory bowel disease sit alongside GI cancer surgery, pancreas and HPB conditions, and, more recently, liver and pancreas transplant. The advanced sub-specializations are additions to that base, not a narrowing of it. His practice also includes robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci Surgical System, offered for suitable cases alongside laparoscopic and open techniques.
